Dr. Yitka Graham
Dr. Yitka Graham (she/her) is a Senior Lecturer in Health Services and NHS Engagement at the University of Sunderland.
Yitka Graham’s core interests are bariatric surgery, sexual and reproductive health, prevention of pressure ulcers, health services research (focusing on patient experience, patient safety and organisation of care), patient-reported outcome measures (PROMS) for cystinosis, practitioner roles and end of life care. She has an embedded research post in the bariatric surgical unit in the Directorate of General Surgery, where she led research into patient experience, sexual and reproductive health, the role of pharmacists, and the role of social media and technology for bariatric patient support.
Yitka teaches undergraduate and postgraduate students across a range of courses in the Faculty of Health Sciences and Well-being, including Nursing and Pharmacy. She leads the Population Health module on the MSc Clinical Pharmacy programme.
She is the Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health Professionals (NMAHP) Strategic Research Lead for the South Tyneside and Sunderland Healthcare Group (City Hospitals Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust and South Tyneside NHS Foundation Trust) where she is developing research capacity and capability for these professions. Yitka holds the same post within Sunderland Clinical Commissioning Group and South Tyneside Clinical Commissioning Group to build NMAHP research in the community. She is also Vice-Chair of both CCGs' Research and Evidence Committee.
Yitka brings the knowledge, research and experience from these healthcare environments into teaching and learning across a range of courses in the Faculty of Health Sciences and Wellbeing, giving students the benefit of real-world research and its application in practice.
