Jenny Wotherspoon

Jenny Wotherspoon (she/her) is the Programme Leader Social Media Management and Video Journalism Lecturer at the University of Sunderland.

Jenny Wotherspoon is a lecturer in video journalism at the University of Sunderland and runs the BA Honours Social Media Management degree programme. Her teaching currently focuses on factual video storytelling and content creation through digital video, social media video and 360 video; the use of social media for building audiences for brands, businesses and news providers; digital community management and engagement; and social media video and content strategy. Prior to working in higher education Jenny was a video journalist and freelanced for the Guardian, Telegraph and Daily Mail among other publications.

She spent two years working on a pilot digital video news website for BSkyB based in Newcastle, creating content covering the Tyne and Wear region and using social media to help build an audience, and community, around the website. Originally trained as a Broadcast Journalist at Leeds Trinity, Jenny produced online video content for the Yorkshire Post and worked as a freelance bulletin reader at Pulse FM in Bradford. Jenny is a member of the Storyhunter and Vi networks and outside of her academic role in University of Sunderland, produces digital and social media video for brands, businesses and organisations.
