Bettie Hope

Bettie Hope is a textile artist whose fashion brand, Slutmouth focuses on rejecting the sexual and mental taboos we hold against our bodies by creating glitzy and funky fashion pieces, interior and furnishing accessories, and bespoke commissions. It is a slow-paced approach that gives new leases of life to fabrics that were once going to a landfill; these products help raise money for ‘No Sweats’ Solidarity garment workers fund. Her surface design practice is anchored using traditional screen printing, illustrated natural formations, and embroidery techniques. The aim is to educate and provoke thoughts on such current societal issues. Alongside her fashion brand, Bettie curates creative events: makers markets, life drawing classes and exhibitions including the Let Us Eat Cake exhibition for working-class female-identifying artists. She also runs inclusive, empowering workshops and community arts projects to combat social issues and bring people together.
